RoxPay is a European payments platform — online gateway, Android POS and open banking — and Verification of Payee is one of its banking services rather than a standalone tool. That context matters, because it's why VoP at RoxPay connects to real payment flows instead of sitting in isolation.
Built on the SEPA VoP scheme
RoxPay's Verification of Payee uses the SEPA VoP scheme and returns the standardised outcomes — match, close match, no match, not applicable — together with the responding bank's BIC and the processing time. Because RoxPay operates on established European open-banking infrastructure, a single connection reaches payee verification across SEPA.
The 'IBAN trio'
Inside the RoxBusiness banking product, VoP is part of a trio of IBAN checks that build on each other:
- Basic IBAN validation — format and checksum.
- Detailed IBAN validation — bank and branch identification.
- Verification of Payee — the real name-vs-account check only the payee's bank can answer.
Format checks ≠ a name check
Validating an IBAN's format tells you it's well-formed, not who owns it. VoP is the only one of the trio that confirms the account actually belongs to the named payee.
Two ways to use it
Teams reach the same verification two ways: directly from the RoxBusiness dashboard for manual checks, and through an authenticated REST API to embed it in their own channels. There's no scheme to build or maintain — you pay per verification, with contract pricing for higher volumes.
Inside SEPA Direct Debit
VoP isn't just a standalone lookup at RoxPay. It's used as a mandatory pre-check in the SEPA Direct Debit mandate flow: before a mandate signing link is issued, the debtor's details are verified, so a SDD mandate starts from verified data. You can explore the full platform at roxpay.eu.
